Anwar Jones

|
Anwar began his Salsa training in 2008. Though he is relatively new to Philadelphia’s Latin scene he is definitely no stranger to dancing and performing. Anwar (raised by his mother and mentored by his sister in various dance disciplines) hit the stage for the first time at the age of 3. |
Anwar’s mother was a dynamic Jazz, Modern and Tap Dancer who owned a dance studio in Highbridge, NJ. After years of training, workshops and performing, Anwar blossomed into a young talent and began teaching Tap and Hip-Hop in 2001. He has been privileged to work with various companies and programs including: Roxy Ballet Co/The Mill Ballet School, Peppermint Players Theater Workshop, Hunterdon County Youth Services, Glen Gardner Youth Center and The Deer Park YMCA. Anwar is delirious with enthusiasm as he looks to tackle the world of Salsa!
“I can recall many nights in the kitchen… My mother would urge me to take the lead and dance with her and my sister. Unfortunately, I was intimidated by these dancing divas and often relegated myself to simply observing them spin each other to the smooth sounds of Meringue and Salsa. 20 years later (with a little more confidence instilled) I proudly dance for my mother every time I touch the hand of a Salsera.”
“Life isn’t always the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance!”
